What is MarathonMasters?

MarathonMasters is a Toastmasters club dedicated to helping its members become better speakers and leaders. With the skills learned from membership in the club, members are able to:

Better negotiate salary increases and promotions at their jobs.
Explain new concepts more easily and successfully to others.
Fill into those roles that require speaking ability, such as in giving a toast or a best man''s speech at a wedding.
Present material in meetings at their jobs with additional confidence.
Move up the employment ladder into higher level leadership positions.
Improve their interviewing skills.

Officer training is coming up for all 2009-2010 officers. Training this summer (well, late spring) will be held at Shawnee Mission North High School on June 20. Here are the details and agenda:

Martha gets her DTM

Congratulations to Martha for receiving the highest honor Toastmasters can bestow - the DTM. In order for a member to obtain a DTM, he or she must complete all seven other awards:

Competent Communicator award
Advanced Communicator Bronze award
Advanced Communicator Silver award
Advanced Communicator Gold award
Competent Leader award
Advanced Leader Bronze award
Advanced Leader Silver award

Very few Toastmasters are able to reach this level of excellence. Martha has shown the determination and commitment necessary to achieve this award, and I can think on no one more deserving than her. Once again, congratulations.

Officer Elections

It's time to start thinking about officer positions as we'll be nominating our new officers on May 21, then voting on them the following week on May 28. Starting with this upcoming installment, officer terms will now be 1 year (up from 6 months) to match the Toastmasters International fiscal year. The officer positions up for grabs, along with the nominees, are:

President - Cheri Willard
VP Education - James Williams
VP Public Relations - Mary Bartnik
VP Membership - Martha DeMond
Secretary/Treasurer - Rose Sanders-Likes
Sergent at Arms - Jim Stoutenborough

The Division S International Speech and Table Topics Contest is being held this Saturday, April 4. Take note that the location has changed. The contest will be held at:

The contest begins at 11:30am

James Williams will be representing MarathonMasters in the Table Topics contest.

Area S-75 contest (3/21/2009)

The area S-75 contest for the International Speech Contest and the Table Topics contest is taking place this Saturday (3/21/2009) at YRC Worldwide near I-435 and Roe. Here are the details.

YRC Worldwide
10990 Roe Avenue
Overland Park, KS 66211
Registration begins at 8:00am
Contest begins at 8:30am

There will be a $3 fee at the door for food and beverages. Contestants arriving after the start time (8:30am) will be disqualified. MarathonMasters is sending some of their own, so be sure to come by and cheer them on.
