Looming directly ahead of us is our semi annual drive for money, otherwise known as pizza for dues. To show support of our dedicated members who selflessly choose to pay their dues of $42 ($35 if you're a full time student) on time, our club provides pizza for all attending members for a day. That day is Thursday, September 16. If you miss this meeting, you will not have another opportunity to enjoy pizza with your MarathonMasters friends for another 6 months. Don't miss out on the fun. You know you want to be there.
This week our club is hosting its annual Humorous Speech Contest. Come by for a good laugh, and who knows, maybe the speeches will be funny too. The winners of the club contest move onto the area level where they can compete for glamorous trophies and autographed certificates. We only host one humorous speech contest a year, so don't miss this rare opportunity. Miss this and you'll have to wait an entire year for the next one.
The semifinal international speech contests are over. Helen Fu, an Overland Park Toastmaster representing District 22, participated in the contest. She unfortunately did not win, and will not be participating as a finalist. However, her polished speaking abilities have allowed her to advance to a level most Toastmasters can only dream about, and her accomplishments are an inspiration to us all.
Toastmasters International has the complete list of winners on their web site for anyone who is interested.
MarathonMasters will proudly host a special event and informal open house featured Ms. Helen Fu as our guest speaker.
Helen (in middle) is the winner of 2010 International Speech Contest of District 22, and she’ll represent our district to compete for 2010 World Championship of Public Speaking at Palm Desert in CA on Aug 12-14.
Helen will give us two 5-7 min speeches. For details, see agenda on the left.
It is FREE and OPEN to everyone! Snacks will be provided.
Helen Fu's Bio:

Helen is a member of Central Exchange Toastmasters since 2008. She also won the District 22 Humorous Speech Contest in 2009. What is most notable is she is winning in her second language, English, as Helen was born and raised in China.
MarathonMasters has selected a new location for our weekly meetings. Due to policy changes at Webster University, we are no longer able to meet at their campus. We would like to thank Webster for allowing us to use their facilities for the last two years.
Our new location is at Trailside Center, located on the southeast corner of 99th Street and Holmes. Trailside has offered us use of their Watts Mill meeting room. The room is large, has a dedicated smartboard for our use, and should suit our needs well. We will be meeting at this new location starting with our July 15 meeting. I look forward to seeing everyone there.
