For all officers, district 22 is having their semiannual officers training this weekend. The event is taking place at Shawnee Mission North High School (7401 Johnson Drive) this Saturday, Jan 26. Registration begins at 8:30am and the session begins at 9:00am.

Makeup sessions will be the following Tuesday, Jan 29, at Butler Manufacturing (1540 Genessee) with registration starting at 5:00pm and the session starting at 6:00pm.

Remember, you don't have to be an officer to attend, and we need the participation from any member who would like to help us out.

We're rapidly approaching the time to elect our new officers for the first half of 2008. Current nominations are as follows:

Congratulations to Eldon who has been voted to fill out the rest of the year as VP PR. This was necessary to fill in for Tim Freund, the former VP PR, who is no longer a member of our club.

The student discount proposal passed. Full time students will receive membership at $35 every 6 months instead of the normal $42.

Members, what would be your thoughts on implementing a student discount for our members who are full time students? Instead of the usual $42 every 6 months, students could be members for $35 every 6 months. Would you support something like this? We're going to be putting it to a vote at our next meeting, as long as we have a quorum of active members. If you'd like to chime in and make your voice and vote heard, be sure to make it to the next meeting.

This Thursday, September 20, is our semi annual pizza for dues meeting. Come by and enjoy some free pizza in exchange for extending your membership for another 6 months. Dues are $42 for members renewing, although everyone is welcome, and we promise not to hoard the pizza from the guests.

The area S-4 Humorous Speech Contest is scheduled for this Saturday 9/15, starting at 8:30 in the morning. Area S-4 will be combining their contest with two other areas to help maximize the assistance of judges, vote counters, registration, etc.

You will not be allowed in after 9:00, so make sure you're there by then. And remember, we will be represented at the contest, so come by and help cheer on our members.

Congratulations to Eldon who is the winner in our humorous speech contest. He will be advancing to the area level contest tentatively scheduled for mid-September. Suzanne will be his alternate if he is unable to make it for any reason.
