It's that time of year when we have to pull out the checkbooks and pay our dues. That means we'll all need to scrape together the usual $42 ($35 for students) and hand it over to our Treasurer, Rose, so we can secure our memberships for the next six months. But don't think of it as an expenditure as much as an investment in all our futures. Oh, and we all get pizza, too.
Congratulations to Eldon on acquiring his AC-G (Advanced Communicator Gold) award. The AC-G is highest level of accomplishment a toastmaster can achieve in the communications track. Eldon has been a dedicated MarathonMasters member and with this award he serves as an inspiration to us all.
The humorous speech contest has been pushed back a week to meet the needs of one of the contestants. This has the advantage of allowing us to hold the contest in the Abell/Lorenz room, which gives us a larger room for what will hopefully be a larger crowd.
Don't miss out on the fun - the contest is now scheduled for August 28. Be there.
It's nearing that time of year when we need to start thinking up those funny stories. Every fall we conduct a humorous speech contest, and this year's contest is coming up on August 21. Speeches are to be 5-7 minutes, can be on any topic (but they should be a coherent story rather than a series of one-liners), and will be judged according to TI's guidelines. The winner of this contest will move on to compete at the area level. This is your chance to reach for the stars, gather some notoriety, and basically just have a good time.
For everyone else who isn't competing, we will also need the usual assortment of contest roles, including contest master, judges, timers, and at least one vote counter (did I miss any?). It will be a good time for all, so invite your friends and we'll make an event out of it.
The District 22 Spring Conference is coming up this weekend in Mission, KS. Friday night (April 25) is Friday fun night, and the main conference is all day Saturday (April 26). The conference will be taking place at the Holiday Inn on the northwest corner of Matcalf and 63rd Street (aka. Shawnee Mission Pkwy). Click the links below for more information.
Congratulations to Eldon for taking second place in the Division S International Speech Contest. Although he won't be competing at the Spring Conference, it's still quite an accomplishment, especially considering the difficulty of the competition.
The Division S International Speech Contest is being held this weekend at the same location as the Area S4 contest.
